A letter to seminarians... One from the Pope, and the one you should write

I'm over at Summa This, Summa That sketching out the gems I've found in Pope Benedict's Letter to Seminarians, released in the last few weeks. Here's a snippet from "How To Grow a Priest":
Just over two weeks ago, on October 18, Pope Benedict released his Letter to Seminarians. The Letter’s introduction begins with his recollections of his own priestly dream.
When in December 1944 I was drafted for military service, the company commander asked each of us what we planned to do in the future. I answered that I wanted to become a Catholic priest. The lieutenant replied: “Then you ought to look for something else. In the new Germany priests are no longer needed”.
Okay, so, we all know how that worked out.
Go read the rest.

  1. The more I read thoughtful things like this, the more I like our Holy Father. Thanks,Pat, for bringing things like this to our attention ... stuff that is so meaningful but wouldn't necessary make it on our radar.
