The Temptations are not just a singing group...

They are real experiences of the draw of evil and our struggle against it. But what's more, we have a savior in Jesus Christ who knows all about temptation. Jesus had a human life with a human body, just like us, and he "gets it" when it comes to temptation. Not only that... he shows us a way out of it.

This Sunday's gospel will present Jesus' face to face confrontation with the devil.  And what we learn from the Catechism of the Catholic Church is that his encounter with temptation is significant because it recapitulates the scenario in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve fell, and it reprises the scene in the desert centuries earlier when the Israelites rejected God and worshiped a statue of a golden calf instead.
