Primarily, the Church is “one” as its source is one; the Trinity is origin of the Church. Just as the Blessed Trinity is a unity of three divine Persons in One God, so is the Church a unity of believers that are joined as one body by their “one Lord, one faith, and one baptism (Cf. Eph 4:5.)”
Secondly, Jesus Christ is the founder of the Church. CCC 813 echoes the words of Vatican II’s Gaudium et Spes: “the Word made flesh, the prince of peace, reconciled all men to God by the cross, . . . restoring the unity of all in one people and one body.”
Thirdly, the “soul” of the Church is the Holy Spirit whose indwelling permeates and rules over the Church. The Holy Spirit joins the faithful together in communion with Christ and one another.
